1. This was a very quick install for me and I had it done very quickly.  It comes with a fuse and holder for the wiring harness, swivel mount and screen protector. Connect to a (+) and (-) connection and you are on your way! I'll be hooking up the NMEA wires to my radio this weekend.

Having used it on Penobscot Bay in Maine on June 27th, I found that  it worked well for me. It powers up quickly and also finds a position very quickly and it is good to have a fast unit. The base map is very basic at best. I had an old C-map card (1998) which I used and found that it worked out well since there have not been many changes to Penobscot Bay over the past 12 yrs..  If you use older cards like I did you will find that the unit will recognize it and also recognize that the card is out of date.  Fortunately, for a yearly fee of about $89 you can annually upgrade your charts from C-map.  In my opinion, that is money well spent.
                                     
I also like the bright screen and "easy to learn" controls. The Owner's Manual as with most owner's manuals are just irritating because it is not only confusing but reads more like a tech manual than user's guide. Fortunately though, you do receive a Quick Start card with the unit that helps you navigate through the basic operations.  That is so much better than having to figure out the manual!

I definitely recommend this to all small boater operators and owners. I found the CP180i is compatible with a Black Box fish finder/sounder and a Sitex radar unit. I would most certainly go with the larger screened models if I were to get any add-ons because, in my opinion, the screen would probably be a bit small for multiple applications.  Why not take advantage of the bigger screen for easier viewing?

2. For several years (8) I have owned and used the Standard Horizon Chart Plotter Catalina 400 Sailboat. I did upgrade to a newer model that has a higher & brighter screen resolution, good clarity, is easy to read and it has more functions and readouts. I am very pleased with this model, partly because I was able to just switch the units and still keep it in the same location.  I also switched the C-Map card from the old plotter to the new one. It tells me the C-Map card is outdated, but it still works. This is a HD (high definition) unit that is even easy to see in bright sunshine!  This product is well worth the money I spent. I am sold on the Standard Horizon CP180I Chart Plotter.  Standard Horizon makes a good product that is reasonably priced.

3. This is the first time I've owned a chart plotter and I am glad that I got the CP180i.  I've been using it  for a month now and found it to be user friendly and it came with a quick reference guide for you to use when you are out on the water. I didn't buy the updated C-Map chip yet so for now I will just use the standard map even though the detail is lacking as compared to some of the other units I looked at. The new C-Map chip is on my "to buy" list for next year.

The 180I warranty is 3 years vs 1 year for them.  It also has a 5" screen vs a 3" - 4" screen depending on the brand. Direct sunlight has not been an issue at all with this unit.

When I purchased this unit from Boater's World they said the unit would ship within 10 - 14 days and I received mine in 6 days which is very good service indeed.

I recommend the CP180i which I am sure you will enjoy immensely for years to come!  Safe boating!
