Reviews of the Garmin GPS 60CSx

1. We owned a street guide GPS, however it was complicated to use for geocaching . This device is superb!
The monitors are intuitive. It took some effort to find out how to use the more sophisticated features, yet we
could use straight out of the box right when we bought it.
Satellite reception is great. Our other GPS cannot locate satellites indoors or if it is cloudy – and the
reception drops each time, we pass underneath a bridge. This unit is top-notch. I never had an instance where I
could not receive adequate satellite reception to navigate.
Extremely happy I purchased it!
2. I returned the Vista CX, got the60CSx instead, and did not regret my decision. The primary difference for me
was the SiRF chipset, which lets me get reception from 3 or 4 satellites from my home! I was able to map over 130
miles of mountain biking trails, which I find useful for planning my journey and leading rides. It hardly fails to
capture on to a signal for a whole 2 hour journey even when in my Camelbak. Not long ago I bought a RAM mount for
my handlebars and it works superbly! I have used it nearly 20 times thus far when mountain biking, XC skiing and
snowshoeing in some very cold climate and I am still using the original batteries (Energizer E2 lithiums). I am
using a 4GB micro SD card as well as installed Map Source for the whole US and Canada. I now have accumulated
nearly 200 waypoints and nearly 30 geocaches as well. The electronic compass operates wonderfully and the 60CSx had
led me to within 6 feet of a geocache and then 5 miles to my home through the forest on snowshoes. It is durable,
has an opening that I have a caribiner attacked to, is simple to read, and I can check out my tracks on Google
Earth (it is a shame you cannot save them as a link). I am going to the Caribbean on a 9-day tour this coming
Friday and will bring it along to track as much as possible (zip lining!). It is not as tiny or lightweight as the
Vista was, yet the functions and usefulness are much better than that in my opinion. I got a coupon and a rebate so
the cost was a no-brainer, yet I would certainly pay the full amount since it locks and remains on whenever I have
gone so far, and I am in the forest often. Like with all devices with a monitor, I highly advise using the
protective films just like I have done. They do not interfere with the displays. Greatly Recommended!
3. I really love this GPS so far. I owned a Garmin Vista and although it was simple to use, I had reception
issues. Since I am a hiking/backpacking enthusiast, I go to areas with a lot of tree canopy and the Vista was
frequently dropping its signal. This is not the case with this unit. Over 50 miles with it in the forest and I have
not lost reception.
Furthermore, the bigger display screen is wonderful, as my eyes get older. The pages are greatly intuitive like
many of the menu displays. Additionally, this GPS does not seem to drain batteries like my previous one did. The
only problem may be that the owner’s manual and in a few ways the GPS are geared toward road travel and navigation
while the device is a hand held and will lure more outdoor users instead of drivers. (FYI, my wife owns a Garmin
550 StreetPilot and adores it.)
Overall, I recommend this GPS greatly, for all that its worth.
